[Celebrate the 20th National Congress] 2022 “Bauhinia Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition” was grandly opened in Liuzhou Vocational & Technical College

"News from News Center (Text and Photos by Lai Yuhua from School of Art)" On the afternoon of June 2, 2022, 2022 “Bauhinia Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition” was grandly opened in Liuzhou Vocational & Technical College. This exhibition was sponsored by Liuzhou Art Academy, and co-organized by School of Art of Liuzhou Vocational & Technical College. Nearly 40 pieces of works in Bauhinia series were presented, which were recently created by Mr. Li Xinjun (pen name: Xinjun), member of Chinese Artists Association, president of Liuzhou Art Academy and director of Liuzhou Art Gallery.

Yongjia, dean of the School of Art, presided over the opening ceremony, and made a welcome speech on behalf of the school to all the leaders and guests. Liu Zilin, secretary of the Party Committee, Wu Xianglie, first-class director of Guangxi Radio and Television, CAI Zhi, second-level professor of Guangxi Arts University, Zeng Feiyun, deputy director of Liuzhou Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism, Ou Shunhong, chairman of Liuzhou Artists Association, Zheng Hongmei, deputy director of Liuzhou Mass Art Museum, Zhang Tonggang, secretary of Liuzhou Art Academy and Liuzhou Art Gallery, Qin Yi, director of the Exhibition Creation Department, Jiang Guoying, director of the Public Education Department, Wang Zongbao, director of the Publicity Department, Li Decai, director of the Collection Department, and Chen Qisheng, associate professor of School of Art of LVTC, as well as the whole school attended the ceremony.

Li Xinjun gave a speech at the event and firstly expressed his gratitude to School of Art of Liuzhou Vocational & Technical College for providing such a platform for the show. He briefly introduced the painting series and explained the reason why choose bauhinia as the theme of this exhibition. Bauhinia, as a special symbol of Liuzhou city, stands for the humanistic spirit of Liuzhou. It has very special meaning for everyone in Liuzhou, who is led to show the charm of bauhinia in way of painting from the perspective of the city and the collectivity.

Liu Zilin delivered a speech on behalf of the school, and stressed that fine art plays a significant role in helping the cultural development of our Bauhinia Liuzhou. The Bauhinia series of works presented are the representative works of bauhinia culture, with leading effect in development of Bauhinia culture in Liuzhou. The artistic accomplishment and humanistic feelings embodied in these paintings are exactly consistent with LVTC's spirit of craftsmanship and artistic pursuit, which is exactly original intention to introduce this exhibition in LVTC.

Soon afterwards, Liu Zilin announced the official opening of 2022 “Bauhinia Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition”. Later, Liu Zilin awarded Li Xinjun the certificate of special appointment. The latter was appointed as the distinguished professor of School of Art of Liuzhou Vocational & Technical College.

After the opening ceremony, Li Xinjun gave a special lecture on bauhinia painting for the guests, teachers and students. He shared how to use gold and silver paper to paint with color ink, and find the way to constitute the painting context of bauhinia by using traditional Chinese painting ideas and modern drawing language. He also analyzed biological characteristics, artistic characteristics and symbolic significance of bauhinia, and further explain how to sketch the shape, branches, flowers and leaves of bauhinia, to manifest life rhythm of the painting in an intersecting structure of blankness and conception with our paintbrush.

At the end of lecture, Li Xinjun showed the drawing process of bauhinia to the guests, teachers and students. With just a few strokes, the blooming vitality of bauhinia stood vividly revealed on the paper. The pigment moisture, unrestrained freehand brushwork and vivid layout were exclaimed in great surprise by the audience.

The bauhinia series of works presented in this exhibition are colored ink works created with gold and silver paper. The works strive to construct the painting context of Liuzhou Bauhinia with traditional Chinese painting ideas and modern ink language. The beauty and vitality of bauhinia are shown incisively and vividly, the paintings are both imaginary and real with peculiar composition and highly daring color combinations, bringing about strong decorative and visual effects. Some of the works are large in size and their mountings reflect a strong modern sense. The exhibition is well designed and arranged. Embellished with elegant sketches of silk bauhinia, the exhibition is both ornamental and academic.

It is reported that the exhibition will last for nine days (June 2 to 10) at Jiangxin Space exhibition hall, Tianggong Building, Zone D, Shewan Campus. The opening hours are 9:00-12:00 in the morning and 15:00-17:00 in the afternoon. All art-lovers are welcomed to the exhibition.
